Man Dies in Two-Car Accident on Route 3 in Crofton

A 63-year-old Glen Burnie man died and two teens in another car, one from Crofton, were injured in an early morning accident on Sunday.

After a two-car crash early Sunday morning on northbound Route 3 at Davidsonville Road, police reported a Glen Burnie man died and two  teens in the other car were injured.

Monique Spriggs, 19, of Crofton was a passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Elizabeth Ramirez, 19, of Millersville, according to a release from Anne Arundel County Police. Ramirez reportedly only has a learner's permit and does not have a valid driver's license, said police.

The police report states that the Jeep was attempting to turn left around 1:41 a.m. from southbound Maryland Route 3 onto Davidsonville Road when it struck a Ford Crown Victoria on Route 3. Police said the driver of the Crown Victoria, 63-year-old Javaid Firdaus of 313 Thelma Ave. in Glen Burnie, sustained multiple injuries and later died at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.

The teens were treated for minor injuries and released. Police said the preliminary investigation revealed no evidence that drugs, alcohol or excessive speed contributed to the crash.

However, police discovered that Ramirez was using a relative’s vehicle without knowledge or consent and the investigation is ongoing.
