Police Charge 2 Men in Crofton Van Theft

One man runs away from police after being tracked in connection with the stolen van early Thursday morning.

Anne Arundel County police arrested two men in connection with the theft of a van in Crofton on Thursday morning.

Police said they made the arrests after an officer on patrol saw a blue Chevrolet Malibu and a white minivan traveling close to one another near the Canter Farms neighborhood.

The officer suspected that the van may have been used to steal motorcycles, so he monitored the two vehicles and later saw one man jump out of the van and run toward Nantucket Elementary.

The officer approached the driver of the Malibu and detained him. He then looked inside the van and saw that the ignition switch had been popped—a sign that the van may have been stolen.

Police officers were searching for the other man when he called 911 to report that he wanted to turn himself in. Officers then located him and arrested him.
