Police Warn Residents of Vehicle Theft

November means the holiday shopping is gearing up. While you're out looking for deals, some criminals are hoping to steal your car, truck or SUV. Don't let your vehicle become a victim. Anne Arundel Police said there has been an increase in such crimes.

Anne Arundel County Police are warning residents the area to protect themselves from a recent rash of people stealing items from inside vehicles.

Police said they have noticed an increase in such thefts over the past several months.

"In many of these cases, the vehicle's doors were not locked and/or valuable property had been left in plain view," police said in a release. "Theft from vehicles is one of the most easily prevented crimes."

  • Do not leave valuables in plain view in your car, no matter where you park.
  • Take all valuables with you or place them in your trunk—if possible, before reaching your destination.
  • Lock your car and park in a well-lit parking area.
  • Report any suspicious activity that you see in parking areas or in your neighborhood right away by calling 911. Many people feel they are bothering police if something seems suspicious, but they said they'd rather check it out when it is happening as oppossed to finding out at a later time.
