A Maryland prison inmate has escaped from a minimum security prison in Anne Arundel County by scaling a fence, authorities said Monday.
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says Larence Godfrey covered the razor wire on the top of the fence with blankets just before 5 a.m. Monday to escape from Dorsey Run Correctional Facility in Jessup.
The blankets were spotted around 6:15 a.m. and officials say Godfrey was identified as missing about an hour and half later, reports WJLA TV. Godfrey was last seen on Interstate 295 north near Route 100 between 7:20 a.m. and 7:40 a.m.
Godfrey, 30, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Prince George’s County Circuit Court in 2002 for attempted murder, according to CBS DC. His expected release date is in October 2016.
He is described as a 5-foot-8 African-American man who weighs about 140 pounds.
