Robbery Suspect Hit Police Cars on Route 3

Police said an accident on Thursday was the end of a police chase that occurred after a robbery in Glen Burnie.

Anne Arundel County police arrested a man who they say robbed a Glen Burnie beauty store on Thursday and led them on a chase that ended with the man crashing into police vehicles on Maryland Route 3.

Derrick Christopher Lanham, 45, of no fixed address was charged with robbery, theft less than $1,000 and nearly 20 traffic charges, according to online court documents. Police have not released his booking photo due to an ongoing investigation.

According to a police press release, officers responded to the Sally Beauty Supply store located in the 7900 block of Crain Highway in Glen Burnie at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday for a reported robbery. They spoke with the store clerk who said that a man entered the store and went to the counter to make a purchase.

Once the register was open, the clerk said the man grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash, threatened the clerk and stole other items before fleeing the store in a white sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, police said. The clerk was not injured.

Police broadcast the description of the suspect's car and, at about 10:38 a.m., officers spotted it heading south on Route 3 near McKnew Road in Gambrills. Officers tried to stop the car, but police said the man fled and continued traveling on Route 3 south. Officers followed the suspect until he crashed into police vehicles near Route 450, police said.

Three people—including Lanham, who was in police custody—were , according to Anne Arundel County fire spokesman Capt. James Rostek.

Lanham remained in custody at the hospital and was later taken to the Eastern District Police Department and charged.
