Three Local Liquor Stores Pass ‘Operation S.A.V.E.’ Test

When it comes to refusing to sell alcohol to minors, at least three Crofton area businesses passed the test.

Operation S.A.V.E. or Selective Alcohol Violation Enforcement tested stores and restaurants across Anne Arundel County for alcohol enforcement. The three-month project involved members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department in cooperation with The Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth and Families and the Anne Arundel County Liquor Board.

According to a press release from the Anne Arundel County Police, the following local businesses did not sell alcohol to decoy underage customers.

The Operation S.A.V.E. organizations worked together to ensure vendors abided by alcohol legislation during the end of the school year, peak prom time and graduation season.

AACPD officers found 18 county businesses non-compliant with the law regarding juvenile drinking, according to the release. That number is up from eight cases in 2010.

The Center for Disease Control reports a 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that among high school students, during the past 30 days:

• 42% drank some amount of alcohol;
• 24% binge drank;
• 10% drove after drinking alcohol; and
• 28% rode with a driver who had been drinking alcohol.
