Van Crashes into Truck on Route 450, One Severely Hurt

Police said Bernhard Ferg of Gambrills suffered life-threatening injuries when his van crashed into a box truck.

A Gambrills man was critically hurt Monday afternoon when he lost control of his van and crashed into a box truck on Route 450.

Anne Arundel County Police and firefighters responded to the crash shortly after noon and found the driver of the van, 65-year-old Bernhard Ferg, trapped inside. They extricated him from the van and he was rushed to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation into the crash showed that Ferg may have lost control of the van traveling northbound on Route 450 and crossed the double yellow line. The van crashed into a Ford F-450 box truck near Rutland Road.

The driver of the box truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Police said driver error and weather conditions may have been contributing factors in the crash. It is not known whether alcohol or a medical condition may have contributed.
