Study Encourages Input About Route 3 Traffic

The county executive has scheduled a public meeting on June 19 to get feedback on how to mitigate traffic along nine major corridors in Anne Arundel County.

Anne Arundel County officials are seeking input on a broad transportation master plan. The study includes an analysis of several corridors including Maryland Route 3 from Prince George’s County to Maryland Route 32.

The county will hold a public meeting on June 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at . There, residents can weigh in on the findings of a study designed to identify ways to reduce traffic congestion in the county.

Nine major highway corridors and four secondary corridors were involved in the study, including Route 3.

The latest public meeting comes after input from a seven-person Citizen Advisory Committee, and a series of public forums over the last 18 months.

County officials acknowledged that the creation of the master plan does not guarantee that funding will be available to actually carry out solutions to traffic problems. But, they said it was important to establish which road corridors should be viewed as priorities.

“Ongoing economic constraints make it unlikely we will see significant new programs or construction projects in the next several years,” said Larry Tom, the director of the county Office of Planning and Zoning. “Nonetheless, this is an ideal time to examine our priorities so that the County is successful in seeking Federal and State assistance when funding does become available.”

  • U.S. Route 50: Prince George’s County Line to Chesapeake Bay Bridge
  • Maryland Route 2: Central Avenue to West Street
  • Maryland Route 2: US Route 50 to Interstate 695
  • Interstate 97: US Route 50 to Interstate 695
  • Maryland Route 32: Interstate 97 to Howard County
  • Maryland Route 100:  Maryland Route 648 to Howard County Line
  • Maryland Route 3: Prince George’s County to Maryland Route 32
  • Baltimore-Washington Parkway:  Prince George’s County line to Interstate 695
  • Magothy Bridge Road to Hog Neck Road to Fort Smallwood Road
    (MD 173) to Baltimore City Line
