Board Approves Crofton School Redistricting

Students will be moved from Nantucket to Crofton Meadows elementary schools.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education has approved a redistricting plan that would shift student populations from Nantucket to Crofton Meadows elementary schools.

The bulk of the plan, which was crafted by a committee of parents and endorsed by Superintendent Kevin Maxwell, will go into effect for the 2014-15 school year.

The plan was designed to address overcrowding at Nantucket Elementary.

The main provisions of the plan are as follows:

  • Students living in the area of Chelmsford Drive and Johns Hopkins Drive will shift from Nantucket Elementary to Crofton Meadows Elementary.
  • The current undeveloped area south of Chelmsford Drive and east of Underwood Road would be moved from the Crofton Elementary area to that serving Crofton Meadows Elementary.
  • Students living in the future community of Wilson’s Grove (formerly The Enclave at Riedel Pond) will shift from Crofton Meadows to Nantucket.
  • Students living in the Walden Drive area will shift from Nantucket Elementary to Crofton Elementary. (This will go into effect for the 2015-16 school year.)
