CMES Health Walk Raises Thousands for Technology

Students and teachers walk and raise over $15,000 for school supplies.

Three years ago the Crofton Meadows PTA found a way to raise money for technology equipment at the school in hard economic times.

In continuing with tradition, the PTA recently held its 3rd Annual Healthwalk with lots of enthusiasm.

Students took home pledge forms to raise money per lap walked with the anticipation that they would walk the entire allotted time and help contribute to the school’s ongoing technology expense.

Each child was given a t-shirt to wear and loads of promotional items to take home. When they passed the start line each lap, a group of enthusiastic parent volunteers and teachers were there to mark an X on the shirt grid. Music, friends, snacks, and lots of fun made this a successful event.

4th graders Drew Ahearn and Juliet Ale started the festivities by singing the National Anthem.

Kindergarten student, , was the special guest who came to cut the opening ribbon. Trinity has been out of school most of the school year as she battles non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Held during school hours, all children were able to participate and know that they were helping their school get needed technology.

Since its inception, the PTA has donated this money to buy Smartboards for most classrooms; overhead projector units; new printers; and all of the necessary cabling and support equipment to compliment these items.

“I enjoyed coming today as a parent volunteer and as a representative for Kirk Lynn State Farm Insurance. The State Farm Bear is fun for the kids. The kids had a great time,” shared Erika Cornett.

This year, the students raised over $15,000! This money will be used to mount all of the Smartboards to the wall in each classroom and the media center. All work is scheduled to be done May 16th.

“I am touched by the outpouring of support. It is obvious that the Crofton Meadows students, parents, teachers, and community love their school,” shared Principal Janine Robinson.

“It is wonderful that we could all work as a team to support our students,” Ms. Robinson commented.
