Crofton Parent Up for Statewide Volunteer Award

Carol Streeter is a semifinalist for the Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award.

A Crofton Elementary School mother is in the running for a statewide honor to recognize parent volunteers. 

Streeter has been named a semifinalist for the Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award, after working to expand science, technology, engineering and math programs at Crofton Elementary. 

As a parent volunteer, Streeter started NASA Best, designed to introduce STEM to young students. She recruited dozens of other parent volunteers and recruited more than 100 students to take part.

Streeter's other volunteer roles include publishing the school directory, serving on a School Improvement Team and Parent Involvement Advisory Council, and running the school's E-cubed and Math Facts programs. 

Streeter was nominated by other parents and school principal Ginger Henley.

The finalist and statewide winner of the Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award is scheduled for May 18.
