Crofton School Redistricting Public Hearing Scheduled

Changes would impact future students living in Crofton's undeveloped property at the Enclave of Riedel Pond.

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education has scheduled a public hearing for March 20 at to discuss potential redistricting plans.

The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will allow the public to offer testimony on two redistricting proposals, according to a press release from the school system.

Superintendent Kevin Maxwell will present his recommendation for redistricting Central, Davidsonville and Mayo elementary schools.

There also is a proposal by a developer to redistrict the Enclave of Riedel Pond. This is an undeveloped property in Crofton.

According to the release, the Enclave at Riedel Pond is a 182-unit planned residential subdivision located in Crofton. The area will reportedly be designated for age-restricted (55 and older) homes.

However the developer is purportedly pursuing converting it to a non-age-restricted community, which would leave the area open to families with school-age children.

The board will take the March 20 testimony into account before reaching its final decisions on redistricting no later than April 30.
