Students at Crofton Meadows Elementary School heard from Cary Williams, cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens, about ways to deal with a bullying situation.

Williams spoke about how he was bullied by a child for many years through school. He explained that bullying can be when someone says bad things about you, uses physical force, or spreads rumors to hurt your feelings.

He urged children to stop bullying by telling a teacher, adult, or authority figure if it happens and not to use physical force as a way of solving a situation.

Children in the audience had lots of questions for this Baltimore Raven.

When asked if there was bullying in football, his comment was well thought out. “Last Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was big and physical. In football, we have to let the referees do their job, and not push and shove after the whistle is blown.”

He commented, “I try to play hard and stay within the parameters of the game. I’m an adult trying to have fun at a kid’s game!”

Williams urged children not to fight back with their fists if bullied, but rather to find an adult and let them take care of the situation.

“Find someone you trust and report the situation,” Williams commented.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools takes bullying very serious. AACPS has implemented a Bullying Prevention Initiative, which takes steps to provide students with a safe and caring learning environment. The initiative teaches students skills how to take a positive stand on bullying.
