According to their website, "NSAL prides itself on discovering new talent and granting awards for competitions in art, dance, drama, literature, music and musical theater."

The Washington chapter of NSAL inaugurated the annual Award for Excellence in the Arts Program in 2004.  This program recognizes Washington metro area public, charter and private high school juniors, from roughly 34 different schools, for their accomplishments in the arts.

Each high school may select up to one Award for Excellence recipient and up to three Certificate of Merit recipients each year.  The awards are presented in May of each year.  NSAL chose to focus on students in their junior year, so that they are able to include this honor on their college applications.

Congratulations to these outstanding local students!
