South River Robotics Team Powers Up Saturday With Annual Kickoff

Friends and community members are invited to join the Power Hawks Saturday when this year's robotics challenge is revealed.

South River High's competition-winning robotics team is gearing up for another challenge, which will be revealed to the team during Saturday's annual kickoff event

As part of First Robotics, the South River Power Hawks take part in an annual event in which students compete with other teams across Maryland in a robot building challenge.

The challenge is kept secret until the competition's kickoff event, so no one team can get a head start on building. Team members must collaborate design and build a robot that completes specific tasks each year. Robots must be built from scratch in about six weeks.

This year's kickoff will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday in the South River auditorium. All Power Hawks team members will be present, and family, friends and community members are also invited to attend.

At 9:15 a.m. Saturday prior to the kickoff, Power Hawks alumni will come to speak with students about life after high school. Those wishing to hear the alumni speak should arrive at the auditorium by 9 a.m.
