Trek4Tech Raises Money for CMS

Running enthusiasts and families seeking fun gathered at Crofton Middle School to raise money for technology purchases.

Four hundred sixty-four people participated in the second annual Trek4Tech Saturday June 4 to help Crofton Middle School raise money for technology purchases.

Runners participated in a 5K off road race or a 1 K fun run. Participants also enjoyed other activities, such as games, face painting and launching rockets.

“It’s been very successful,” said Erika Cornett, treasurer of the Crofton Middle School Parent Teacher Organization, which organized the Trek4Tech.  “We had great community support,” she said.

“The volunteer support was wonderful,” said Monette Bailey, Trek4Tech co-chair. “Everytime we needed something, people would step up,” she said.

Cornett was unsure how much money the event raised. More people participated this year than last, Bailey said. She was hopeful that this year’s Trek would raise more money than last year’s. Money is raised through paid sponsorships and runners fees.

Friends and running enthusiasts Gayle Sharpe and Jen Dorr were glad to pay the fees for themselves and their children. Sharpe and Dorr took part in the 1K fun run with their children, Kylie and Dylan Sharpe, and Seth and Noah Dorr.  “This is their first real run,” said Gayle Sharpe. It was six-year old Kylie’s idea to participate. “I wanted to do it because it seemed fun,” Kylie Sharpe said.

The entire Policelli family participated. “It’s a nice family outing and a great way to help the school raise money, said Daniel Policelli. His son, Danny, was the first place winner in the 5 K seventh grade male category.
