Beckerman Starts as US Qualifies for World Cup

The Crofton native played a full 90 minutes and was instrumental in keeping Mexico scoreless.

Crofton native Kyle Beckerman continued his strong play with the U.S. Men's National Soccer team Tuesday, as he helped vault the team into the World Cup with a 2-0 win against Mexico.

Beckerman, who attended Arundel High, started and played the entire game, recording one shot and committing two fouls.

NBCSports.com noted that Beckerman "did his part on defense" and worked with teammate Jermaine Jones in clogging the middle to prevent Mexico from getting scoring chances.

The U.S. Men's National Team will next play on October 11 vs. Jamaica and then will travel to Panama on October 15. In the meantime, Beckerman will return to play for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer.

The World Cup begins in Brazil in June, 2014. Do you think Kyle Beckerman deserves a spot on the final roster?
