BJJ's Helps Kids Learn Bully Prevention

Bully Prevention Workshop to be held Sunday, Sept. 25 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at BJJ Conquest.

Bullying has become an epidemic across the country. There are thousands of children who wake up afraid to go to school each day because of this problem.

It not only affects the person who is on the receiving end but it also has millions of students, teachers, parents and other adults worried.

Adults may not understand how extreme bullying can get because it is often unseen.

Crofton’s, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts studio, is offering a free bully prevention workshop for 4 to 18-year-olds.

Participants will learn basic self-defense and area awareness skills and confidence.

BJJ Conquest co-owner Kail Bosque, a purple belt and nationally ranked Jiu Jitsu competitor, said that the bully prevention workshop is important for children in the Crofton community and will serve as a way to create more awareness about bullies.

“Bullying is one of the biggest problems for kids of all ages,” Bosque said. “We wanted to do something for the community that would benefit the kids who just started going back to school and for those who are afraid of their classmates due to bullying.”

Bosque said the main goals of the workshop are for children to be able to stand up for themselves and be more confident to stop bullying.

“Bullies like to prey on the less confident ones. If I can just get a couple of kids to stand up for themselves, be a little more confident and share their knowledge with others, then we are one step closer to ending bullying.”

The bully prevention workshop will also benefit parents and guardians as well.

“Parents will take from this seminar knowledge that their child will know at least the basics to protect themselves,” Bosque said. “They will also get a chance to see and understand that bullying is a bigger problem than they may realize. We want the kids and the parents to be better prepared to stand up against bullying.”

BJJ Conquest plans to host other bully prevention workshops as well as a women’s self-defense seminar in the future.
