Championship Run Ends in Heartbreak for Chesapeake Charge

The soccer team gave up two late goals to fall in the WPSL Eastern Conference Finals.

The Chesapeake Charge lost its bid for a national soccer title on Saturday, as the team fell to to the New England Mutiny in the Women's Premier Soccer League Eastern Conference finals. 

The Charge gave up two late goals and fell 3-2 in extra time in the game played at Arundel High School. 

The WPSL's website reported that the Charge led 2-1 until giving up a header in the 93rd minute. The Mutiny then scored the eventual winning goal in the 100th minute. 

The Charge, comprised largely of top players from Maryland, entered the game with a record of 10-0-2 and the league's best overall record. It reached the eastern conference finals with wins over Long Island and the New York Athletic Club. 

The Mutiny remained undefeated with a record of 8-0-5 and will play in the WPSL Final Four on July 27.
