Crofton 10-U Softball Sweeps Catonsville to Start Season

Pitchers combine for two no-hitters; Stars score 17 runs in two games

The Crofton Stars 10-under softball team packed in plenty of good pitching and hitting as they started the season with a pair of victories over Catonsville last weekend.

Crofton didn’t give up a hit in both games, beating Catonsville 7-0 and 10-6.

Oyler threw three no-hitter innings in the 7-0 game. She struck out eight and walked just two.

Mills also didn't give up a hit, struck out nine and walked just two in 3 1/3 innings in the other game.

“They were flawless,” said coach Lisa Mills.

Emma Ruberg came on behind Oyler to finish that game and struck out the side. Ruberg and Caitlyn Houck pitched in the other no-hitter game.

Crofton dominated the 7-0 game from start to finish.

The Stars scored twice in the top of the first inning to take charge and never had a problem. They added one run in the second and fourth in the third.

The second game was a little tougher as some control problems gave Catonsville scoring chances. Those walks helped Catonsville score four times in the top of the first, but Crofton bounced right back to get five in the bottom half to take the permanent lead.

The game stayed tight until the bottom of the fourth when the Stars broke things open with a five-run rally. Catonsville came back with two more runs – thanks to walks – in the top of fifth, but it wasn’t enough.

Crofton finished with 10 hits in the game as the two five-run outbursts paved the way.

Caroline Mills led the way in the two games by going 4-for-4 with four RBI and two walks.

Allison Page played in one game and was 2-for-1 with one RBI.

Houck finished 2-for-4 with two RBI while Katy Conroy added two hits and three RBI.

Grace Gretz got a hit and an RBI while Taylor Conley was 1-for-1 with two walks in the one game she played.
