8 High School Football Games to Watch This Fall

There are good matchups every week in the county, with several teams capable of winning regional crowns.

High school football in Anne Arundel County is always intense, and this year should bring us a great matchup nearly every week.

Old Mill, Arundel and Broadneck have been among the strongest teams in recent years, but Meade took a major step forward last season with a run to the regional crown. Here's a look at eight of the top games we can expect this season. (All games at 6:30 p.m.)

Broadneck vs. Old Mill - Sept. 6. The best matchup of the first week. Broadneck won the regional title in 2010 and has rebuilt for another run. Expect some good defense in this one.

Old Mill vs. Arundel, Sept. 12 - This Thursday matchup will be one of the most anticipated games during the season's first few weeks. Old Mill won the state title in 2011. Arundel topped the Patriots last season.

Meade vs. Old Mill, Sept. 20 - Expect a physical battle between these two regional crown contenders.

Chesapeake vs. Northeast, Oct. 17 - The 'Dena Bowl always brings one of the biggest crowds of any county game. Northeast will look to avenge a 13-7 loss to the Cougars in last year's contest.

South River vs. Arundel, Oct. 18. - Arundel usually comes out on top in this rivalry game, but the Seahawks have been known to give the Wildcats a scare.

Broadneck vs. Arundel, Oct. 25 - Always a great contrast in styles, as the Wildcats bring a fast-paced offense against the more defensive-minded Bruins.

Meade vs. Broadneck, Nov. 1 - A late-season game that could be huge for both teams. In recent years, both teams have shown to be stronger late in the year.

Arundel vs. Meade, Nov. 8 This is the final game of the regular season and it could have all kinds of implications. Arundel beat Meade in the regular season last year, but the Mustangs returned in the playoffs to bounce the Wildcats.
