Gambrills Skater Competes at National Championships

Ian Lorello and his partner finished in the top 10 in the U.S. Figure Skating ice dancing championship.

A Gambrills resident and his partner finished in the top 10 at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships over the weekend.

Ian Lorello and his partner Anastasia Olson finished 8th in the ice dancing competition, but fell short of earning spot onto the U.S. Olympic Team competing in Sochi, Russia next month.

Lorello, 23, was a top junior skater along with former partner Isabella Connuscio. He began skating with Olson last February and now trains at Skating Club of Detroit in  Bloomfield Hills, MI.

Lorello moved to Gambrills when he was five years old and trained at the Piney Orchard ice Arena, among other local rinks, according to his mother, Lynne. He later began training in Delaware.

Ian Lorello's older brother, Alexander, also competed at the national level, appearing in the national championships from 2009-2012. His two younger siblings, twins Grant and Mara, also competed at various levels.
