Pro Mod Racers to Heat Up the Track in Crofton

The New Capitol Raceway hosts racing event Fire on the Hill on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at its track in Crofton.

Get ready for some hot racing action because Fire on the Hill at the New Capitol Raceway in Crofton is promising blistering, record-breaking speeds at next week’s Fire on the Hill pro mod invitational and modified-class races.

More than 20 pro mods are expected to try to qualify for the top 16 racing spots on Aug. 31 for the main event on Sept. 1, when racers will be blazing up the track with speeds exceeding 200 mph for the chance to win the $5,000 purse, according to a press release.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 31, and only the first 50 cars will be accepted. The Friday Night invitational will feature 25 dragsters and 25 door cars and racers must preregister by emailing info@capitolracceway.net.

Friday attendees also will get the chance to see world champion John Montecalvo and his Chevy Camaro take on the Carolinian, Elijah Morton and Ford Mustang.

If Friday’s not enough, there’s more racing action to be had at the New Capital Raceway on Sept. 1 with two more rounds of pro mod qualifying and several other racing events.
