Seahawks Playoffs: Boys Baseball and Lacrosse

South River has advanced to the regional finals in baseball and the state semi-finals in Lacrosse. Both games are Friday.

Baseball

On Friday, South River will meet rival Severna Park at home for the Class 4A East Regional Final game in boys baseball. The two teams have already met this season, with a win for each: the Seahawks won 5-3 at home on April 18; the Falcons took the game in a squeaker (11-10) on their home field at the end of April.

The game at Seahawks stadium will begin at 4 p.m.

To get to the finals, first seed South River beat sixth seed Broadneck, 5-0 on May 16. The Seahwks then took second seed North Point High (4-2), away, on May 18. The Seahawks starting pitcher, sophomore Scott Mitchell will have had a full day of rest going into the regional final game.

The Falcons (fourth seed) got past first seed Chesapeake High on Thursday (12-2) to make it to the regional final. Chesapeake was the 2010 Class 4A State Champion.

While South River got a bye in the first round, Severna Park had to get past 13th seed North County (8-4) and sixth seed Old Mill (6-5).

The Falcons are 17-5-0 for the season while  South River is 18-4-0.

The state semi-final game will be at Shipley Field at the University of Maryland College Park on Tuesday. The winner of the South River vs. Severna Park game will play the winner of the Churchill High vs. Gaithersburg High game.

The state final game is set for May 27 at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.

Lacrosse

At 8 p.m. the South River boys lacrosse team will meet Montgomery County's Wootton High School for the Class 4A State Semi-Final.

South River on Wednesday, while Wootton got past Walter Johnson High.

In the 2010 state final, Wootton met—and fell to—Severna Park High.

The 2011 state final will be held on May 24 at UMBC Stadium.
