South River Lacrosse Falls to Westminster in State Final

After two rain delays, Westminster defeated South River 13-10 in the 4A/3A state lacrosse championship game.

It took two trips to UMBC and nearly 24 hours, but Westminster High School finally captured the 4A/3A state lacrosse title with a 13-10 victory over South River High School Thursday night.

Last year’s state final rematch was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday, but with 1:11 remaining in the first half and South River leading 8-7, play was suspended due to lightning.

When the game resumed Thursday night, Westminster rallied to take control and completed its undefeated season with a 13-10 victory over the defending state champions.

Thurday's night's game maked the third time in as many years that South River made an appearance in the state final. The Seahawks claimed the title in 2012 and 2009 under head coach Paul Noone.
