South River Lacrosse Heads Back to State Final
The Seahawks will face Westminster High School in the state championship game for the second year in a row.
When the South River boys lacrosse team steps on the field for the class 4A/3A state championship game on Wednesday, the Seahawks will be presented with an all too familiar scene.
For the second year in a row, South River will play in the state final. And for the second year in a row, the Seahawks will face Westminster High School.
After defeating Howard High 15-6 on Saturday, South River again finds itself in the state championship game. The Seahawks have stormed through postseason play—defeating its opponents by a combined 47 goals in four games. However, South River shouldn’t necessarily expect to steamroll Westminster.

In last year’s state final game, Westminster surrendered a seven-goal lead to South River and eventually fell to the Seahawks 10-8. This year, Westminster enters the state championship game with a bitter taste of loss, and an opportunity for revenge. The Owls also have a perfect season on the line.
If South River hopes to capture its second straight boys lacrosse title, it will need to continue with a dominating offensive outing and control Westminster’s ability to score at will.

In the earlier rounds of postseason play, the Owls have won 26-1, 22-4, 14-1 and defeated No.-1 ranked Winston Churchill 23-9 in its regional championship game.
Both teams enter the state final poised for an offensive outburst, which is sure to set the stage for an action-packed rematch.
The class 4A/3A boys lacrosse state championship game will be played at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at UMBC Stadium.
