Pigs Fly Over Anne Arundel County Libraries

The summer reading program features Blue Sky Puppet Theatre's production of "If Pigs Could Fly."

About 40 children and their parents came out to the Annapolis Area Library on July 16 to "travel" around the world with Chester, Buster and Suzy Pig.

The 45-minute show, called If Pigs Could Fly, is put on by Blue Sky Puppet Theatre.

The puppet company kicked off its summer Dream Big, Read tour in Annapolis and will travel around Anne Arundel County libraries.

Annapolis Area Librarian Cameron Caswell said July's 11 a.m. show had more than 100 attendees.

"We ended up having to turn people away," Caswell said. "The Blue Sky Puppet Theatre is very popular; it has its own following."

Caswell said the show is silly.

"There were funny noises coming out of our meeting room this morning, which turned the heads of people in the library," she said.

Puppeteer Steve Hildebrandt said the idea for If Pigs Could Fly came from a show they did last year at Washington, DC area libraries.

The show features three little pigs and their librarian Mrs. Picklebottom. The pigs use four different kinds of puppets to tell stories from Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East to Mrs. Picklebottom's pre-school class.

Blue Sky Puppet Theatre modified the production to fit the Dream Big, Read theme with a custom song that got stuck in this editor's head for several hours after the show ended.

The pigs will back in Anne Arundel County on Thursday at the  for performances at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
