CRCC Recognizes Teen Volunteer, Discusses Upcoming Events

CRCC released a summary of the general membership meeting and reminds everyone that the Sweethearts Gala is this month and a Bowie Baysox event is planned for June.

It was a jovial, yet serious crowd that gathered for the (CRCC) general meeting at on Feb. 1. Some important and helpful things were accomplished.

Christian Hodges, a teenager from Arundel High School who has been assisting the CRCC time and again and attending many of the meetings, put together a wonderful presentation showing all that the CRCC has accomplished over the past few years. Later in the meeting, he was named Volunteer of the Quarter for the CRCC for all he has done for the organization. This busy teen is going places and is involved in many activities and volunteer work. His work for the CRCC has been invaluable. Christian handles the CRCC Facebook and Twitter sites.

Janet Greenip, CRCC chairman, announced that Cindi Johnston is now the new CRCC secretary of the Executive Board. Welcome aboard, Cindi!

Steve Grimaud, CRCC vice-chairman, spoke of the website and Facebook and the different categories of volunteers we have. When no person could be found for keeping up the website, Steve took over, teaching himself, and building a site we can all be proud of. He explained the difference between being a CRCC Friend and a CRCC center Member. To make full use of the website's capabilities and plan for the future expansion of the site, “Members” will be those who've paid for the yearly membership to make use of the center. “Friends” are those who are interested in keeping up with activities and events to further the CRCC foundation goals and fund raising. “Friends” can be from anywhere in the country.

Irene Bedard explained how the grant requests are progressing. Each application will be towards building a recreation center for the Crofton area. A volunteer, Susan Schwertzer, has been very helpful with the wording of future fund applications and contact information for grant possibilities. Hopefully there might be organizations who will dramatically support an effort like this to help build a much needed community center. Irene is also looking for more assistance on this effort.

The CRCC doesn't know what they would do without Irene, who has sent in a request for the first grant and is addressing others. Still, she asks the community to please put her in touch with companies and other places she can apply for a grant. Those interested in helping can reply by email  to Irene at bedards@aol.com.

The CRCC must include letters of support for all grant applications, showing the need for a community center in the Crofton area. We have supplied these with the first grant application, but could use more. We ask everyone in the community to consider writing a letter of support—especially organizations and businesses—and sending it to the CRCC at P.O. Box 3372, Crofton, MD 21114. Please write something today and not put this off. Thank you.

Frank Bedard has brought us far with his expertise and knowledge of facilities design and activity programming. He is a tireless worker and has connected us to many people who have contributed their talents to a final design for the community center, just as Eric Tedrow has for the skatepark. Frank spoke briefly at the meeting on our progress.
