Below-Zero Wind Chills Headed Toward Crofton

Winter is dealing Maryland a one-two punch with the coldest temperatures in 20 years en route after last week's snowfall that totaled six inches in Severna Park.

Dangerously cold air from Canada will blanket the region Monday, on the heels of Sunday's freezing rain.

How cold are we talking?

"Bitterly cold conditions are expected behind an Arctic front Monday through Tuesday night. Record cold temperatures are expected across the area. This air mass may turn out to be the coldest in 20 years. Dangerously low wind chills are also expected during this time," according to the National Weather Service.

On the Chesapeake Bay, gales are likely Monday night and could stick around Tuesday on the water, the weather service reported.

Here’s the forecast for Crofton:

Sunday—Cloudy with a chance of rain or freezing rain in the morning, switching to rain in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 40s. Overnight lows in the lower 30s.

Monday—Dense fog possible before 7 a.m. and showers likely until 11 a.m. Temperatures in the mid 30s, falling to 5 degrees overnight. Wind chill values as low as 7 below. 

Tuesday—Breezy and cooler with temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees.

Wednesday—Sunny with highs back in the upper 20s. 

Thursday—Mostly cloudy and highs rebound to the lower 40s.
