PHOTOS: County Libraries Celebrate Summer Reading with Baysox

Anne Arundel County Public Libraries recognized kids who participated in the summer reading program at Sunday’s Bowie Baysox game.

County kids who have participated in the Anne Arundel County Libraries Summer Reading Program enjoyed a night of baseball, fireworks and prizes Sunday as the Bowie Baysox recognized them for their summer reading successes. Many kids from area libraries flocked to Sunday night’s Baysox game where they took part in a pre-game parade on the field and were congratulated for reading over the summer. Representatives from Anne Arundel County Public Libraries also were on hand, giving out prizes and taking pictures of the kids participating in the event. “The kids are pretty jazzed they get to run out on the field before the game and get a prize,” said library spokeswoman Laurie Hayes. “We have been working with the Baysox for about 10 years now …

Bowie Baysox Host Summer Reading Night

Participants in the Anne Arundel County libraries Summer Reading Program will head to the Bowie Baysox game on Sunday.

Kids participating in the Anne Arundel County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will head to the Bowie Baysox game on Sunday for a parade, giveaways, fireworks and Captain Underpants. The annual event gives kids who participate in the library’s program recognition for reading in the summer. Adding to this year’s festivities will be Captain Underpants himself. The first 1,000 kids aged 3 to 14 to arrive at Sunday’s game will receive a copy of the widely-popular children’s book, Captain Underpants. They will also get the chance to meet the character at the game. Every kid who has signed up for the Summer Reading Program can get a free ticket to the game. New Library Fine Policy Involves Collection Agency

If you owe $10 in fines to the Anne Arundel County Public Library system for more than 45 days, a collection agency will be contacting you.

Do you have outstanding library fines? You might want to pay them before a collection agency contacts you on behalf of the Anne Arundel County Public Library system. Borrowers currently owe about $750,000 in fines, according to Anne Arundel County library spokeswoman Laurie Hayes. Look under your kids' beds, check the back of the van or behind the couch and gather all your library materials because if you owe more than $10 in fines—they will make you pay. County libraries are instituting a new system for dealing with fines starting July 18. If your account balance is $10 or more, you will be referred to Unique Management Services Inc. to collect on the debt. Instead of thinking of ways to avoid the fines, such as returning your items on time so that other library patrons may avail of them, you choose instead to shun the library.
