Police: Suspects Stealing Tires, Rims from SUVs

Police said there has been a recent string of thefts involving SUVs in the Gambrills area.

Anne Arundel County police are warning residents in Crofton and Gambrills about a series of thefts from cars in the area over the last few weeks.  Police said that there have been several reports of suspects stealing tires and rims from larger SUVs. Three incidents involved a theft from Cadillac Escalades, while another involved a Chevrolet Tahoe.  In one incident, the owner of a vehicle came out of his home at 3:40 a.m. and saw three men loading a floor jack into another car, before speeding away. The owner then saw that his truck was missing all of its tires and rims.  Police said that two incidents were reported on March 18 in the area of Cheyenne Drive and Ogden Square in Gambrills.  Anyone with information on these cases is asked to …

Police Investigate Assault at Irish Channel

A man said he was knocked to the ground then punched and kicked on Saturday night at the Route 3 bar.

Anne Arundel County police are investigating a possible assault at the Irish Channel bar in Gambrills on Saturday night.  Police said a 28-year-old man has been hospitalized after being pushed to the ground then punched and kicked by several other people.  Officers were first alerted to the assault on Sunday evening and spoke to the father of the victim. The father told police that his son was assaulted about 11 p.m. the night before and was receiving medical attention in Bowie.  Police are seeking help from the public in identifying the those involved in the assault. Police: String of Cars Vandalized in Crofton, Gambrills

Police say brick used to smash several car windows Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

Anne Arundel County police are looking for a suspect in the smashing of several car windows in the Crofton and Gambrills area Saturday night and Sunday morning. According to a police alert, several vehicles along Tilghman Drive in Crofton and one on Snow Valley Lane in Gambrills were vandalized. Police said a brick was thrown through the window of the vehicles. There have been several acts of vandalism of this type in the area within the last year, police said. At this time there are no suspects or known motivation for the incidents. Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the police department at 410-222-8610.

Police ID Crofton Teen as Morning Crash Victim

Police said icy roads may have been a factor in the crash that killed 18-year-old Alexis Lewis in Gambrills.

Anne Arundel County Police have confirmed the identity of the victim in a crash Thursday morning in Gambrills, and said icy roads may have contributed to the accident.  Police said 18-year-old Alexis Lewis of Crofton died when her pickup truck collided with a cement truck on Waugh Chapel Drive. The impact of the crash ejected her from the truck and she died on the scene.  The crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. Thursday.  According to an account of the accident provided by police, Lewis was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup in the eastbound lane of Waugh Chapel Road, approaching the Village at Waugh Chapel shopping center. Terrible to here. I live on Vacation Dr right off Indian Summer dr on my way to work. I hit that same patch of ice at 5am that morning heading towards Rt 3. The same exact thing happen to me =\. Icy Roads Wreak Havoc; One Dead in Gambrills Crash

At least one person died when a cement truck and car collided near Waugh Chapel Drive and Silver Way. Emergency officials reported more than 60 auto accidents Thursday morning.

Updated: (10:23 a.m.) — At least one person died in a crash in Gambrills Thursday morning, and police and fire officials responded to dozens of accidents all over the county due to icy roads. Anne Arundel County police responded at about 7:45 a.m. to the fatal crash near Waugh Chapel Drive and Silver Way in Gambrills. Preliminary information from police indicates that a cement truck collided with a car. There was no initial information on the identity of the victim or the condition of any other passengers. Roads in the area were closed and motorists were being urged to avoid traffic.  One Anne Arundel County police officer was also hurt in a three-car accident on Annapolis Road in Odenton. Chris, I agree that people need to take responsibility for safe driving. However, it's also the government's responsibility to ensure that roadways are safe to use. If this were a less populated area, a patch of ice would rarely result in a fatal accident. West County Chamber to Honor Educators, First Responders

The chamber's Celebrate Community awards dinner will be held Feb. 20.

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will honor educators, first responders and service members next week at its annual Celebrate Community awards dinner.  The chamber has nominated teachers in elementary, middle and high schools to be named Educator of the Year in the county. Police: Thief Fires Shots, Robs 7-Eleven

The incident occurred early Sunday in the 1000 block of Route 3 North in Gambrills.

Police are searching for a man they say used a gun to rob a 7-Eleven in Gambrills early Sunday morning. According to a police press release, officers responded to the 7-Eleven in the 1000 block of Route 3 North in Gambrills for a reported robbery that just occurred at about 12:44 a.m. Sunday.  Officers spoke with an employee that said a male suspect entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money. According to police, the suspect fired a single round from the gun into the ceiling, grabbed an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store in an unknown direction. Multiple officers, a K-9 unit and the Aviation Unit searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
