The Arundel High color guard performed along with several other groups Saturday at the Arundel Indoor Spectacular.
The Arundel High color guard hosted groups from all around the region Saturday at the first-ever Arundel Indoor Spectacular. The show featured a total of seven groups performing dance, percussion and color guard routines. Highlights included: The Arundel color guard capped off the afternoon with its performance of "Be Yourself," which tells the story of a young girl whose dolls come to life. The award-winning performance features a rousing routine set to the song "Barbie Girl" by Aqua.

The Arundel Indoor Color Guard is in the middle of its most successful—and fun—season in recent memory. Powered by an energetic routine and several veteran members, the guard recently earned top honors at a competition in Pennsylvania, and is prepping for a trip to Disney World later this month. "This year has been so much fun," said senior Natasha Salzinger, an Arundel High senior from Crofton, who has been with the guard for six years. The band finished 15th out of 24 bands at the tournament held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The Arundel High marching band and color guard followed up a state championship with a solid showing Saturday at the USBands National Championships in New Jersey. The band had the chance to perform at MetLife Stadium—home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets—and finished 15th out of 24 bands in its division. Performing its original show based on the theme of "time," the band recorded a score of 91.325, less than five points off the winning tally. The Arundel band, led by music director Ian Burns, entered the national competition after winning a state championship in its group at Towson University on Nov. 3. The June 22 event raises money for the Arundel High marching band and color guards.
The Arundel High Instrumental Music Association (AIMA) raised more than $1,700 to support the school's marching band and color guards during its recent charity golf tournament. AIMA board member Tony Mohr reports that the June 22 tournament attracted 36 players to the Bay Hills Golf Club in Arnold. It was the first charity golf tournament ever held by the AIMA. Tom Keeler and Dave Docherty came away as winners and Bobby Torres won the putting challenge.
