Arundel Student to Serve on State Board

Christian Hodges will be the student representative on the Maryland Board of Education. His term begins in July.

An Arundel High School student has been selected to serve on the state's highest school board.  Christian Hodges has been appointed by Gov. Martin O'Malley to serve on the Maryland State Board of Education. He will begin his term in July and serve through the 2013-14 school year.  "I'm really passionate about education and student advocacy," said Hodges, who is finishing up his junior year. "I'm really excited to be on the same board with people who are so smart and so incredible. I'm going to be put in an evironment where I'm bound to grow." Hodges is no stranger to student government. He currently represents the Mid-Atlantic region on the National Association of Student Councils and has held positions in student government at Arundel …

Arundel Junior Shadows Council Exec

Christian Hodges recently took part in the county's Model Student Government Day.

A junior at Arundel High recently spent some time with new County Executive Laura Neuman during a recent meeting with constituents, the Capital-Gazette reported. Christian Hodges was permitted to shadow the county executive during a two-hour session last month at Northeast High School. The Capital-Gazette also reported that the event include a mock debate on issues ranging from recycling to synthetic marijuana. Hodges has shown a keen interest in student government during his time at Arundel. State Board of Ed Finalists Include Arundel High Student

Christian Hodges, a junior at Arundel, is one of two students who could have some voting rights on the state board.

An Arundel High student has been named a finalist to serve as a student representative on the Maryland State Board of Education.  Christian Hodges, a junior at Arundel, could be appointed by Gov. Martin O'Malley to serve during the 2013-14 school year.  Benjamin Feshbach of Thomas S. Wootton High School in Montgomery County is the other candidate. The pair were selected by the Maryland Association of Student Councils, which had been presented five candidates.  “I am honored to have been chosen by my peers as a finalist for student member of the State Board of Education,” Hodges said in a press release. “It has been my dream to sit on the State Board since I entered high school, and now I am one step closer to reaching this dream and …
