On Tuesday, the Garden Club of Old Towne Annapolis will host the 56th annual May Day basket competition but you don't have to live or own a business in downtown Annapolis to celebrate the special day. Roundz Gourmet Market in Gambrills features eye-catching May Day baskets along with a new signature sandwich—tomato, basil and mozzarella—on your choice of bread with homemade regular or sweet potato chips for $8. You voted the sub shop at the Village of Waugh Chapel the best local place for sandwiches.
It was a close race but Firehouse Subs won the Readers' Choice contest for best sandwich in Crofton and Gambrills. The sub shop located in the Village at Waugh Chapel just opened in February. "You haven't had a sandwich until you've had a Firehouse sandwich ... They use these special steamer machines that heat the meat and cheese and turn it into mouth watering bliss," wrote Patch user Dan in the comments. One of the Firehouse favorites is the "Hook & Ladder" sandwich, which features smoked turkey breast, honey ham and Monterey Jack cheese.
