Emergency responders in Anne Arundel County received more than double the typical call volume in a 24-hour period, with more than 400 calls coming in during the post-tropical storm known as Sandy. About half of those calls were storm related. Division Chief Michael Cox of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department confirmed that one person died when a tree fell a house in Pasadena Monday night. Firefighters also responded to a major fire in the Edgewater area. “This was a very large and very dangerous storm," Cox said. Cox said the only known fatality in the county came when a tree fell on a house at the 7700 block of Suitt Drive in Pasadena. Firefighters arrived to learn a man had been trapped. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Anne …

As night fell onto the areas of Odenton, Severn and Crofton, Hurricane Sandy brought stronger winds and heavier rains. Residents braced themselves for an intense storm overnight. But for the most part, the area was holding its own against the storm. There were relatively few power outages to report in the area, though the power was out near the intersection of Route 3 and Annapolis Road, and along sections of the Route 3 corridor. Most major neighborhoods still had electricity, though there were reports of outages in the Delmont Station development in Severn and off California Terrace in Gambrills. A BGE outage map indicated roughly 1,500 outages in Severn and a smattering in Odenton and Gambrills. On Annapolis Road in Gambrills, debris…

If the "Frankenstorm" turns west at the Chesapeake Bay, storm surges would rise.
Residents along the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland are hoping the Frankenstorm starts its trick-or-treating to the east—and stays there. A westerly turn for the storm could prove catostrophic, as the counterclockwise rotation of Hurricane Sandy would pull water into the Bay, creating destructive storm surges for the waterfront communities. But if the storm stays to the east—as projection models early Saturday are beginning to favor—the Bay communities could be spared, while ocean-front communities along the East Coast could be hammered. » Follow Maryland Patch on Facebook for constant statewide updates on the Frankenstorm. In many early models, Havre de Grace would be under the eye of the storm at some point or another. "It looks right now …
