Arundel Students Read 'Poetry Out Loud'

English students recited poetry to classmates as part of a national competition.

Standing and speaking before a live audience is one of the most common fears, but Arundel High students took the challenge head on recently with a poetry competition involving English classes at the school.  Nearly two dozen students (mostly 11th-graders)took part in the "Poetry Out Loud" competition, each reciting two poems by memory in front of classmates and judges. The students took part in the school-wide competition after being selected as among the best in their individual English classes.  Maddie Swanson emerged as the winner after reciting Solitude by Ella Wheeler Wilcox and The Idler by Alice Moore Dunbar-Nelson. Crofton Man Writes About ‘Pursuing the Sunrise’

Croftonite Ajibade Jegede shares his inspiration behind his book of Christian poetry.

Ajibade Jegede dedicates his time to mentoring fathers in the All Pro Dads program and ministering to the community through Power of One Ministries. His ministry is extending beyond the church and into his new book Pursuing the Sunrise. “I started writing poetry when I was in college,” Jegede said in an email. “Poetry helped me discover my passion for writing, and after I became just as passionate about being like Jesus, my poetry took on a distinct Christian tone." The father of two said he had written so much that he eventually had a manuscript on his hands. “Suddenly God burdened me to write this book,” Jegede said. Croftonite Pens Poetry for the Soul

Ajibade Jegede has written a new book of Christian poetry.

A new year means time for a little inspiration from Crofton’s Ajibade Jegede. The All Pro Dads mentor and Power of One Ministries member introduced a book of Christian poetry Jan. 2 on his blog.  The book is called Pursuing the Sunrise. Anointed Rose Press published the book.
