Girls Basketball: Seahawks Set for North County Rematch

The South River girls basketball team defeated Leonardtown Wednesday night.

The South River girls basketball team topped Leonardtown 46-26 Wednesday night to set up a region final battle against North Point for the third year in a row. The No. 2 Seahwaks will battle No. 1 North Point on Friday evening in a scene that is all too familiar to the team. "We lost to North Point in regional final the last two years," South River coach Mike Zivic said. The Seahawks are coming off a successful season with a 22-3 record and a victory over Arundel in the county championship game. But a win over North Point still stands between the team and a berth into the regional championship game. Girls Basketball: South River Advances in Postseason Play

South River High's girls basketball team defeated Broadneck 51-40 Monday night.

The South River girls basketball team took one step closer to a state title Monday night, when it defeated Broadneck in the second round of the MPSSAA Class 4A state basketball playoffs. The No. 2 Seahawks (21-3) topped No. 7 Broadneck 51-40 and will now face Leonardtown on Wednesday night. For the past two seasons, South River's season has come to an end with a loss to North Point in the region finals. North Point will face Severna Park High on Wednesday. If both South River and North Point win on Wednesday, the two teams will once again face off in the region finals on March 1 or 2. Girls Basketball: Seahawks Preparing for Postseason Run

The South River High girls basketball earned a first-round bye and a No. 2 seed in the MPSSAA tournament.

For the past two seasons, the South River High girls basketball season has come to an end the same way—with a loss to North Point in the region finals. This year, the Seahawks (20-3) will look to avenge those loses—but to get there they will first have to tackle some county opponents. South River is fresh off a victory over Arundel in the county championship game and has earned a first round bye along with a No. 2 seed in the Class 4A girls basketball tournament.
