Crofton Rec Football Kicks Off

Practice starts for the local recreation football program

The Crofton Athletic Council’s football program continues to keep growing. They began practice for the fall season a few weeks ago – despite the warm weather – with a program that continues to grow each season. Football commissionier Mike Najarian said that they will have approximately 365 kids on the field this year, up from about 340 last season. In addition, they are going to have a total of about 18 teams overall. The regular season begins later this month. “The bottom line is [that] a successful program and a successful year, to me, is having the kids come out and play,” Najarian said. “That’s what it’s about—the kids having a good time.” Najarian said they’re not trying to make all the kids be miniature Ravens or Redskins. Crofton Bonds Over Baysox Baseball

The Crofton Regional Community Center advisory committee celebrated all things “Crofton” Wednesday night at the Bowie Baysox game.

Croftonites and baseball fans showed up for “Crofton Family Night” at the Bowie Baysox game against the Reading Phillies June 15. Boy Scout Troop 115, under troop leaders Matt Russo and Roger Hansen, conducted the color guard presentation as Forrest performed. Junior baseball players from the Crofton Athletic Council took to the field with members of the Bowie Baysox team before the 1st inning. Members of the Crofton Skatepark Advisory Committe raffled off a skateboard during the game. Crofton Family Night was a fundraiser and awareness event to help fund the CRCC. Plans for the center come at a time when community leaders say crime is seeping into the suburbs and young people are looking for safe places to get together. The CRCC Board is …

Youth Softball Team Looking for a Few Good Players

Tryouts held in January for Crofton Athletic Council's girls softball team.

Are you ready to play ball? The 10u and 12u Crofton Stars softball select teams are looking for a few good players to round out their rosters.   The Fast Pitch Softball program based in Crofton focuses on softball fundamentals, sportsmanship, and team play instruction, said Lisa  Mills, softball commissioner with the Crofton Athletic Council. Both teams anticipate playing at the "B" level in USSSA tournaments in the spring and summer season. The  10u team anticipates between five to seven tournaments while the 12u team anticipates between seven and nine tournaments. Last year's 1ou team ended the season as a runner up in the Jennie Finch's Aces Invitational Tournament in October. The New Jersey tournament trip  was made even more …
