Earlier this week, I wrote a quick story about unique items listed on eBay with a Crofton connection. This prompted an email from Joyce Brown, who runs the the Edrop Depot store off Route 3 in Crofton. "I thought you might be interested in knowing some of the things that we have listed," she said. So I stopped by the store this week and found Brown amidst a wide array of items, from classic books to baseball memorabilia and even a small slot machine. "You would be surprised what people buy," she said with a bemused look. "We get some of the most interesting stuff in here." The latest look at the auction site features a T-shirt from a local crab restaurant.
Did you know that Crofton once had a big waterslide? I sure didn't. I discovered this fact while scanning eBay for the latest items related to the town. Some new items on the popular auction website include a T-shirt from a local crab shack, some baseball cards and, yes, a photo of happy folks sliding on a hot day. Here's a look at some interesting items for sale. Baltimore Sun Photo of Crofton Recreation Park — This photo, taken in 1980, features two people heading down a water slide. The caption reads: "A couple keeps cool on a very hot day at Crofton Recreation Park — on 368' sliding board." This was news to me. Another photo shows that this park also had a "skatebowl." A search on the online auction site reveals a number of interesting and odd items.
Hopping on to eBay can be an exciting adventure. You never know what you might find. I recently did a search for items related to Crofton, and found quite a number of items. Many were photos from The Baltimore Sun's archives, but there were other interesting treasures. Check out these items and happy bidding! Picture of Crofton's Garbage - More specifically, it's a photo of several people throwing some trash bags into the back of a truck. The photo appeared in The Baltimore Sun in 1980 and is selling for $14.99. Photo of a Crofton Police Officer - The photo, also from The Baltimore Sun, features officer John Wortman in his patrol car, looking quite serious.
