South River High Leads Local Schools in Plunge Donations

South River High School currently holds a small lead over Arundel High in fundraising for the MSP Polar Bear Plunge.

Students at South River High are gearing up to take the plunge on Friday and they are making a big impact—the SnoHawks currently lead all schools in fundraising for the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. Students from Arundel High aren't too far behind.  More than 12,000 people participated in the 17th annual Plungefest at Sandy Point State Park on Saturday and raised more $2 million. Students at Anne Arundel County Schools will plunge on Friday. Arundel High School has in recent years been tops among area schools when it comes to donations for the plunge. However, South River currently leads area schools having raised $33,065 in donations so far. Arundel has brought in $28,390. According to the school’s website, South River’s goal …

Snohawks Finish Second in Plunge Donations

South River High School's Polar Bear Plunge team raised more than $30,000 for Special Olympics Maryland.

The Snohawks, South River High's Polar Bear Plunge team, finished second among schools in donations to Special Olympics Maryland after raising $33,930 with 301 team members.  The team was only outdone by students from Arundel High School, who raised more than $40,000 with 469 members.  Before taking the plunge, the Snohawks held a fundraiser at the Greene Turtle in Edgewater to increase donations. Throughout various events, South River's team was able to exceed all of their donation goals prior to jumping in the bay's icy waters during the "Frigid Friday" event at Sandy Point State Park last week.  A large crowd of students gathered together before taking the plunge.
