Crofton Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Kiddie Porn Case

Prosecutors said Anthony Mastrogiovanni sexually exploited more than 30 boys in an effort to make child pornography.

A Crofton man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually exploiting minors to produce child pornography, the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI said.

Federal prosecutors said Anthony K. Mastrogiovanni, 30, captured sexually explicit video of more than 30 boys between the ages of 9 and 16. Investigators said the crimes took place between 2006 and 2012, when Mastrogiovanni befriended his victims through his status as a U.S. Navy reservist and through his involvement in civic groups.

Mastrogiovanni was a former athletic coach with the South Bowie Boys and Girls Club.

He was arrested on July 19, 2012 in Las Vegas by inspectors from the U.S. Postal Service. An investigation of the Las Vegas hotel room resulted in the discovery of hard drives with more than 30,000 images of child pornography and video of his victims.

A subsequent search of Mastrogiovanni’s apartment in Crofton revealed hidden video cameras, video transmitting equipment and other digital media containing child pornography.

As part of his plea agreement, Mastrogiovanni must serve a lifetime of supervised release in addition to his prison term.

Court records show that Mastrogiovanni was also arrested in June of 2012 on charges of impersonating a police officer in Upper Marlboro. Prosecutors have not pursued a trial in that case.
